Coora Place Dual Occupancy
Located on the shores of Lake Macquarie, two elegant new residences have been designed and constructed to replace a small, fibro-clad cottage. The cottage had been the holiday home of owners, Gail and David, who were relocating to the lake, in a step towards retirement.
The residences were to have a particular focus on maximising the strengths of the waterfront location, whilst maintaining privacy for the individual occupants.
Gail and David chose Seaside Homes after visiting other waterfront houses designed by the firm. The almost nautical style of the residences and the character of the roofline, appealed to their preference for a permanent home with a holiday home ambiance.
The design of the residences was approached with a strong emphasis on creating areas which could be utilised in different ways by various occupants.
Firstly, the primary living spaces, terraces and master bedroom suites needed to be located with the most prominent connection to the views over the bay. An additional living room was incorporated, with a separate entry, to allow the occupants the option of operating a business from the residences.
The cooling summer breezes off the lake were maximised with strong cross ventilation patterns through the homes but the design also needed to allow for the times when this breeze would become overwhelming. Protected, private courtyards were included to address this and to allow for year round outdoor entertaining.
