Baker Residence
The brief for this project was for a new residence to suit a soon to be retired couple.
The site was cliff top, ocean front land, north facing.
The priority was to achieve a design that worked for the couple alone, but also allowed for the comfort of visitors.
The shape of the residence was designed to connect with the location, hence the wave-like curved roof forms. The stone work was incorporated to align with the sandstone cliff face.
Due to the strong N/E winds off the ocean, the design incorporates both waterfront and street side outdoor living spaces. The rear space however has a view line through the living room to the ocean.
The living rooms stretch across the full width of the building to maximise the view and the master suite has the primary location on the first floor, with a dedicated reading area and views from the bath.
