The site was a flat, north facing, lakefront lot which was ideal for the owners, who wanted this build to be their final home. They had adult children and grandchildren but also many friends who were likely to regularly stay with them. They wanted a home they could entertain larger groups in but one which would feel comfortable when it was just the two of them. A retreat was requested within the garage space for “men’s business”, with the only other primary design concern being placement of the owner’s extensive art collection.
The site allowed for the residence to remain single level to meet accessibility requirements. The living room pavilion was finished with exposed trusses and raked ceilings to create a boatshed ambiance. The wrap around deck provides covered and open spaces to meet weather and seasonal requirements. The living rooms, master bedroom and primary guest bedroom all have water views.
