The existing dwelling on this beautiful lake-front site was an awkward mix of the original \"weekender\", and an 80\'s era, brick veneer extension.
The clients were not happy with the disjointed appearance of the dwelling, or the series of split levels.
After seeing many of the firm\'s projects from the water, they engaged Seaside Homes to unravel the structures and create their new home.
The general brief for the project was to design a contemporary, single level residence, with both street and waterfront appeal. Above this though was the client\'s desire to live in a home that comfortably met the needs of the couple and their two teenage children. An open plan living space connecting to exterior entertaining areas, all with views, was a priority.
As is regularly the case with waterfront sites, the challenge was to maximise the extensive, south facing views but still allow for ample northerly sun and access to the cooling north-easterly summer breezes.
Large panel doors from the living room to the waterfront terrace open the space to the lake and the raked ceilings and highlight louvre panels add even more drama to these rooms.
A pergola on the northern facade, with a removable canvas awning, protects the glass in summer but allows winter sun into this more intimate sitting area.
The existing bedroom wing was maintained as the children\'s space, with its own living room. The new master bedroom suite was then positioned on the waterfront side with expansive views across the lake.
A final bonus was the elevated floor height of the waterfront terrace allowing for a substantial boat shed to be located under the floor platform.
The family have lived in the new home for over a year now and are more than happy to say that they wouldn\'t change a thing.
