Fisk Residence
The before picture shows a standard 70s cottage. The clients wished to significantly extend the residence without sacrificing the “weekender” feel of the property. To address the required building setbacks from the waterfront, the addition could only be located across the rear of the existing residence. The new work included a bedroom wing, incorporating two guest rooms plus a master suite, a second living room, garage and boatshed. The existing cottage naturally faced the western waterfront but unfortunately turned its back on the northern sun and the cooling north-easterly breezes. This was addressed in the addition to create clear cross ventilation patterns through all of the living rooms and bedrooms, and to provide a north facing and an east facing terrace. The residence also needed a renovation to better compliment the style of the clients. This was partially addressed by replacing the concrete roof tiles with steel roof sheeting, to create a more nautical feel. The completed residence has an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for the extensive entertaining enjoyed by the clients.
